The Desert Rose is a gem. Just 2 blocks from the Luxor/Tropicana corner on the Strip, we could walk over and join in on the madness or walk back to our quiet, large, clean 2 bedroom suite.
The staff were super friendly and helpful.
After staying a few times at the "big" hotels on the Strip I finally hit the jackpot on something! -

We just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at the Desert Rose along with our 21 and 15 year old daughter and had a wonderful stay! The location of the resort was key - just a short walk from Hooters the Tropicana & Excalibur. Catch a cab at Hooters or the Deuce (double decker bus $5 all day) across the street at MGM. This vicinity of the strip is very safe and we felt comfortable walking out in the evening. There is a nice restaurant within 2 blocks called Cocos Bakery/Restaurant alongside a convenience/souvenir store in case they don't have what you need in the lobby convenience shop.
The room was delightful - cheery, clean and spacious. There beds were all very comfortable, the kitchen well stocked with all cooking utensils, dishes, etc. The pool was nice - but too cool this past week with high winds - so we made use of the hot tub instead! The desk staff and concierge were very friendly, our maid was sweet (most accomodating) and we all really enjoyed the reception (beer, wine, soda and snacks) Mon-Thurs evenings. The continental breakfasts each morning were nice - a big cost savings for our family of 4.
A great hotel - by all means give it a shot and DON"T be concerned by those negative reviews you have seen on these websites!! -
